My husband and I fell in love with zip-lining in Hocking Hills three years ago. Earlier this June we celebrated our two year wedding anniversary by returning to Hocking Hills (click here to see where we stayed!) and flying over the hills once again.
Valley Zipline Tours is about 30 minutes from Hocking Hills State Park (Logan, Ohio). There are 11 lines soaring over 7000 feet of zips. Unlike many other courses, you break yourself at Valley Zipline. That means instead of the guide being in complete control, we were able to help stop ourselves as we approached the end of the zipline. A guide still caught us at the end and helped us get our balance. So we started with ground school, which is where we practiced breaking and the guides taught us techniques to use on the zips.
We glided 15-40 feet in the air under the tree canopies on the first five lines at speeds of 25 miles per hour. The next three lines are 1000 feet over top of the valley, as high as 100 to 120 feet and speeds up to 40 miles per hour. Although I did great in ground training, I had a hard time breaking on the course. In fact, I hit the break too soon on zip and ended up going backwards. My guide had to rescue me by coming out on the line and pulling me back. He has a tough job! At that point he told me there was one zip I wasn’t going to get to do unless I improved my breaking skills. Luckily I got better on the very next line and was able to do all the zips.
My husband Nick and I raced each other on the dual zips, 700 foot lines. I won! Next is a zip across the entire course measuring over 1400 feet in length. We flew over 50 miles per hour over two bonds ending at a double tower that we climbed to take the last line. This one is short and isn’t very high but it goes over a pond, that you can literally reach down and touch while zipping. So cool!
And all of the above gets even better! See all the gorgeous pictures? Aren’t they amazing?? Valley Zipline Tours has professional photographers on hand to follow you on your adventure, capturing the fun. It was nice to be able to relax, have fun, and not worry about snapping pics to share. I 100% recommend this add on!
All of the staff at Valley Zipline were extremely helpful and friendly. Our tour guides, Wyatt and Nick, made sure we knew how to zip safely and made our experience very fun. We will remember this adventure forever definitely be back.
