Leapfrog
LeapFrog has further taken the lead in child tablets and truly created an Epic device. Think “learning tablet meets Android device”. It’s an Andriod based tablet that grows with your child and it’s the first tablet that has everything I want for my older child.
The recommended ages for the LeapFrog Epic are 3-9 years. However, I find it perfect for my 10 year old. It’s the ONLY tablet I’ve found that offers my son the games he wants and the online security I want. Rather than handing over a phone or offering an ipod type device, he has his own device with what we both want:
serr
LeapFrog games and apps are specifically designed to make learning fun for young learners. They are quality filled educational fun! As my 3 year old ages into these apps, my older son is aging out. He grew up excelling through LeapFrog. The LeapFrog Epic comes preloaded with a few LeapFrog apps and the ability to download games from the LeapFrog App Center. LeapFrog apps are highly researched, award winning, educational apps and there are many to choose from in the App Center (including those featuring your child’s favorite characters). There will come a time though, as it has with my 10 year old, when they are ready for more from their tablet. That’s where the beauty of this Android based tablet comes into play. As your child grows, parents can feel good about still offering the security of LeapFrog.

How To Add Android Apps To Leapfrog Epic
Just wondering if u know if this can be done on leap pad ultra
Unfortunately, only the Epic at this time.
I couldn’t downloaded the Amazon underground. I’m stocked. My daughter is tired of the same games. I want to let her to wacht YouTube but it’s so hard
I would email LeapFrog support and see if they can help. Sorry!
, it appears you need “Google Play services” to run the YouTube app. However, you can allow access to YouTube, YouTube Kids or any website via parental controls. Your child will then be able to access the appoved website through the “LeapSearch” app pre-instaalled on the device.

Will this remedy the issue I am having with some of the stuff that is preloaded on my epic. A lot of the stuff we want to watch or play we keep getting a “blocked…find another way” message even for the sites that I have tried to add for her that I aprove of.
I’m not sure. I would try and see. If not, shoot LeapFrog customer support an email. They’ve been very helpful. Good luck!
In that case you need to whitelist the site you’re trying to visit through the parental controls menu.
I installed it just fine but I can never figure out how to then open it. I click “other” and nothing comes up.
hhhmmmm….I’d have to know more to help. Sorry!
My leappad epic will not sync so I cant add game that I bought. I have windows 10. It works fine on my leappad ultra but not my epic.
Sounds like it would be best to contact LeapFrog directly on this one. Good luck!
I am hoping you can help. I can download the app, no problem. But then when I buy games they don’t download on the leapfrog epic, but to my kindle (old version, so wont work on there anyhow). Not sure how to load another device onto my amazon account, as perhaps that would work.
I am in South Africa, so could be that we are blocked, which would not surprise me.
I believe you have to set up another device within Amazon. Try logging into Amazon and under “Your Account”, click on “Manage content and devices”. Click on the “Devices” tab. If you don’t see a way to set up a new device, shoot Amazon an email. In my experience, they are happy to help. Please let me know if you are unable to work it all out. -Angela
Thank you.
My boys (5 and 8) love the leap pad epic but I know my eldest wants other apps like minecraft.
xx
My son plays Minecraft on the Epic. LMK if you have any problems 🙂
I have found that some apps don’t work on the Epic. Did you find this issue? Wondering before I download Minecraft for $6.99 in the Amazon App Store. Thanks for this – my 7yo is ready for new games.
Minecraft works on ours. We didn’t pay for it though, just used the APK 😉
Angela,
I am planning on buying two Leapfrog Epic tablets for my children for Christmas, and I have a few questions. Can the games be shared between the two tablets? And I know that the epic doesn’t take the game cartridges, but can physical games be bought or does everything have to be downloaded from the app/website? The children have grandparents who would like to buy them games for Christmas, but they don’t like buying gift cards, and want to give them something the kids can unwrap.
Thank you for your help,
Lauren
Hi Lauren!
There are no physical cartridges for the Epic. Everything is downloaded onto it via LeapFrog App Store or Amazon. Games purchased through Leapfrog can be added to up to 5 devices (I believe). So, if you purchased and app, you could add it to both devices. If going the Android app route, there is no limit.
My family is the same way. The year my son wanted games, they printed off a picture of the game (like a screen shot) and wrapped that up with a gift card. That way, he had something to open. They also sell cases/ skins for the devices. That may be an option.
Good luck 🙂
You can share APKs to another Epic through apps like Shareit. There’s a link to the app on APKMirror in case you are interested. 😉
This helped me get some free apps for my girl to play;
Thank you.
Great!
Hello my daughter wants a leappad does thus one allow you to do Google play so she can watch her cartoons
Google Play will not work on the Epic. I wish it would 🙂

Hello.
I appreciate your instructions, I was able to add Minecraft to my daughter’s Leapfrog Epic. Now I would like to add the Mine Little Pony mod to the minecraft game but it is not offered on Amazon… If I can’t add it from Google Play, we might be out of luck. Is there another way around this?
Thanks for any help!
Johnny Thomas
The easy answer is that it cannot be added. google Play will not install on this device. HOWEVER, I have found a way around this and am working on a post with instructions. I hope to get it up soon!

So would I be able to download games from google play on it?
Hi there! SO sorry for the delay in responding!! Goggle Play cannot be downloaded to the Epic as far as I know. There is a way to download Google Play games though. I am getting a post together about how to do this. I’ll try to get it up soon!

Hi I’ve bought the leapfrog epic for my daughter where do inbuy the learning games from. Can you buy them from the shops many thanks
Hi there! SO sorry for the delay in responding!! The Epic does not use cartridges. Games via apps can be purchased from the Leapfrog site. The Epic will also play Android games found on Amazon. Good luck!
The details were not exactly as stated but the basic information was very useful. I managed to get it to work and am now able to add other apps to my daughter’s epic.
Thanks
I’m glad it helped! What steps were incorrect? I’d love to be able to update to any changes Leapfrog may have made. THANKS!
The above was very helpful. Thank you..but now how can i save it so i know how to open it quickly? I don’t see a short cut?
Hi! What is it you want a short cut to exactly?
This post was so helpful! I was able to get on amazon & download some apps for my daughter but I’m having the same problem as the other person. After down loading amazon, how do I get back to it to down load more games? Or do I have to go thru the whole thing again? Thanks, Shanon
Hi Shannon! Sorry for the delayed response. Did you figure it out?
Angela
Hello so one of our biggest questions befor we purchase an epic is can we use you tube on it? My son loves certain kids you tube videos oh and things like the nick jr app ?
Let me look into that today. I’ll get back to you. ?
How to view You Tube on the Epic:

Can this download the minecraft app as well?
Yes! My son plays it on his Epic all the time 🙂
I can’t seem to find the Minecraft app on the Amazon Underground. Is that the right location to get it?
Minecraft is not available on Amazon. It is a Google Play app. There is a round about way to get Google Play apps on the Epic. Check this post out and let me know if you have any problems: https://www.4theloveoffamily.com/adding-google-play-apps-to-the-leapfrog-epic/
Thank you for the quick response. Are you running the Minecraft demo then? That’s the only one I see on APKMirror.
We’re running the full game. Let me check on it this week and find the APK for you ?
Thank you so much!
Checking into this tonight. The holidays got me :/
Fantastic! I hear you about the holidays catching up with you. 🙂
Just realized my comment last week didn’t post. Sorry (again)!
I think I used Aptiode.com vs APKMirror. Try that and lmk. For future, I also used this site to update. I clicked to download again and while in process, it asked if I wanted to update.
Hello there. Aptoide worked perfectly! Thank you so much. 🙂
I’m so glad it helped!! 🙂
where can i have that application ?
I am unsure of what exactly you mean.
In case you’re wondering if YouTube Kids would work, there is a workaround to get it to run on an Epic. Download the APK off APKMirror – make sure it’s the ARM/160dpi variant. Once that’s done, get the Play Services Patcher off the Crackberry forums. You need to have Java runtimes installed, but otherwise just follow the instructions in the thread and sideload the app back to your device.
Other than that, F-Droid and the Cyanogenmod File Manager is your friend. The Epic lacks a file manager, making file-related tasks a bit more clunky; with the aforementioned manager installing APKs downloaded off the web should be a tad easier. 😉
Thanks!
it very helpful
Yay! 🙂
Ok so I have gotten 2 tab epic lf I got games from Amazon but it’s not on child’s play
I’m sorry. I don’t understand the question.
If u have a leapfrog platinum cab u transfer the games and apps from that to leapfrog epic?
If they were purchased through LeapFrog, yes you can. You’ll need to connect the new device to your LeapFrog online account
I don’t see it mentioned anywhere on this page, but an added bonus is that Amazon Underground gives access to a large library of “Actually Free” games that provide FREE in-app purchases.
downloading the amazon app really helped, you can also get a lot of the leappad games for free instead of being charged.
Awesome!!!!
Thanks for the help.. I’m discovering that I’m not able to download netflix episodes to the epic and cant figure out why. Any answers?
Thank you for the lowdown on adding apps to leap pad epic…. Much appreciation!
That was a great tutorial. It worked perfectly. Thank you!
Awesome! So glad it helped
This is fantastic. I had an iPad 2 for my son that would not run minecradt properly anymore and crashed every time. With these instructions I easily installed Amazon Underground, bought minecraft for $6.99 and it runs perfectly on the epic. Once signed in to Xbox live in the app, all of the packs bought previously on the iPad synced up and were available. Thanks!
So glad it helped!!
Which google play app should I download once I type it in the search box on Apk mirror there’s several? So far so good .
The newest 😉
Worked perfectly for both my kids Epic devices.
Yay!!!
This is amazing ! I had a amazon tablet that my son had accidentally dropped into water – damaged – his uncle bought this tablet and I saw the price on the apps – 4/5 minimum for similar apps on amazon – came here and saved me tons on educational apps
AWESOME!!!
Thank you so much!!! My son is tired of playing the same games over and over, I refuse to keep paying tons of money for apps that are usually free. Now, he can finally have some new game apps to play =] Big thanks to you!! Thank you thank you.. Sure wish I would of found this thread sooner, Thanks so much again! =]
SO glad it helped!!! 🙂
Is there a way to access offline downloaded Netflix content on the Epic?
I don’t believe so.
I have followed all the steps you have graciously listed above, however my Epic will not download the Amazon App. The App. sits in a que until it’s unsuccessful. Do you have any suggestions for me?
Hi there! Were you able to figure it out? Without more details, I am unsure of the issue. SO sorry!
Can you take a screenshot or photo of your Epic’s About Tablet screen in settings? I think this may have something to do with a bug plaguing some Epics.
Good to know! I’ll keep researching…
I made a video detailing what I’ve noticed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpUgI8ZSkP4
I’ve heard that a later LeapSearch update may have fixed the issue somewhat, but from what I can attest it occurs regardless of client used to view videos.
