My 9 year old son picked out his own Halloween costume
for the first time this year from BuyCostumes.com
(and I’m determined to be okay with it)

A couple of weeks ago, my 9 year old asked my 2 year old, “What do you want to be for Halloween?” and I laughed out loud. First of all, she has no idea what Halloween is. Second, the child changes her mind on what color socks she wants to wear multiple times per day. “Arh-Arh? (Cookie Monster…don’t ask), Abby?, Let It Go? (aka Elsa)”. She answers yes to each and then out of nowhere declares she wants to be a chicken. A chicken?
This scenario is why I picked out my son’s costume every year. I knew better than he did what he would like and he really wasn’t picky. He was Thomas The Tank 3 years in a row (the kid loved the costume!) and then Peter Pan 2 years in a row (Yay for costumes worn multiple years). This year though, he is 9 and cares more about Halloween than previous years. So, when I asked him if he wanted to pick out his own costume from BuyCostumes.com, he jumped on the computer immediately!
Even with the enormous selection of costumes BuyCostumes.com has online, he found the “perfect” costume within minutes- a BuyCostumes.com Exclusive black ninja costume complete with a sword, throwing stars, nun-chucks, and..the best part…a belt to hold it all! He was excited to say the least. I on the other hand not too much. I guess I held off on guns, swords, fighting, light sabers, etc long enough. I gritted my teeth and dove in to order. I ordered on a 9/11/14. It shipped on 9/12/14. The costumes arrived on my doorstep early Monday, 9/15/14. I’m all about fast shipping at “regular” shipping prices.
Besides the great selection of costumes, BuyCostumes.com offers customer reviews for each. I LOVE REVIEWS!! More than once they have saved me from purchasing something that would inevitably be returned. So, if you are one of those people who always go back and rate their purchases- THANK YOU! Without those reviews in this case, I would certainly have ended up with an upset 9 year old who had to ship the costume back. The reviewers said the body suit ran really small and the vest ran really large. Thankfully I listened. I ordered a 10-12 (he normally wears an 8) and the body suit just fits. The vest is huge as stated, but I expected it and had already considered ways to make it work. No way was this kids sending it back, so time to get creative. We did and he’s beyond thrilled! Now, just to keep track of all the pieces until Halloween!
(Do you see he’s posing like the picture on the package? 🙂 )
As for little bit, she never did decide on one thing. A “chicken” came up the most, but by the time Halloween gets here, she’ll have changed her mind a million more times. So, I decided on this adorable Cookie Monster dress. The best part is, she’ll have multiple chances to wear it in the next 6 weeks: baking cookies with Cookie Monster at Beaches Resorts: Turks and Caicos, Halloween, and her Sesame Street themed birthday party in November. Gotta love multi-use costumes!! *Note: this costume also ran really small. She wears a 24 months and this 3T/4T fir her perfectly.
Oh, and just in case we change our mind to Abby Cadabby or Cookie Monster Ninja, we’re prepared…
