Our family enjoys The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati. We try to go a few times a year, but we always go to the Christmas play. It’s become and annual tradition. Over the years, I have been nothing but impressed with the actors and actresses in every performance I’ve seen. I’m positive that I enjoy the shows as much, if not more, than my kids! The shows are perfect for children. The stories appeal to them and the shows are typically only 45-55 minutes long. My son was 3 at his first performance (Rudolph, I think) and sat through the whole thing.
“The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati is one of the oldest children’s theatres in the country! Today, the Children’s Theatre brings art to life for children and the young at heart through three key programs: MainStage at the Taft, ArtReach (including WorkShops), and Learning the Craft.
The MainStage at the Taft series performed in downtown Cincinnati includes daytime performances for school audiences and weekend performances for the public. Geared toward children ages 4-14, these family-friendly one-hour professional productions feature music, drama, visual arts, and dance as a means of introducing children to the magic of the performing arts.”
The Children’s Theatre also offers study guides for most of their productions. Although the study guides are meant for teachers and schools to use as a tool to incorporate the productions into their curriculum, we use them at home. The study guides are great for getting my kids excited about the show, reflecting on it after and providing additional dimensions to an already super fun, yet educational experience.
